Any advice / experience on this? we’re heading out to NZ next year, these are the stop over options (depending on who we fly with). We did Oz a few years ago with a stop in Singapore so want to explore a different city.
Any thoughts?
TIA

We did a 2 night stop over in Hong Kong, was really good, flights were better value also. Interesting place to look around.

Used to do NZ for a couple of months every winter when our daughter was living there, used Cathay Pacific more than others with a 2-3 night stop each way in HK and stayed at the Shangri-La on TST in Kowloon. Have also gone via Dubai or Singapore on Emirates and Singapore Airlines, it's easy to walk around HK and lots of interesting things to see.

Hong Kong is more fun and accessible than the other two. It's a brilliant city to visit for any length of time. Get the train into the Central station and you step out right into the thick of it.

Shanghai is a great city but it's enormous and not easy to find your way around in just a stopover.

KL is nice but there's not much there compared to the other two.

HKIA/Cathay Pacific are miles ahead of the other airline options you have.

We did a cruise starting in KL a couple of years ago and flew out a few days before it started. Would definitely recommend KL, great city, not too big, Petronas Towers visit is worth doing, food is excellent and its all great value. I'd have another few days in KL in a heartbeat.

Or fly ANZ and stop on the US Pacific coast or a Pacific Island

In the time it took to type that I realise this might not currently be a sane option #orangepsycho

Of the three HK is probably the most expensive, especially for accommodation, but it also has a lot more to offer.

No visit is complete with a trip across the harbour on the Star Ferry; the city has so much to see both historical, modern and scenic. Transportation is excellent and communication easy, food options are excellent and plentiful. Its probably one of the most accessible cities you can visit.

Shanghai, ‘The Bund’ and ‘The French Concession’ are worth a visit (couple of hours) beyond on that it’s a just a huge modern city, which is very spread out.

I can’t comment on KL, I’ve never visited.

IMO, you haven't missed much.
Stayed in KL for 3-4 nights from memory (before heading out to Perhentian Islands), and I can't remember anything worth recommending! We did visit the Petronas Tower, but that was also pretty unmemorable too hehe.
