Staying in Ciampino as a base for not visiting Rome
Discussion
I posted a while ago about how Rome is hot, too many street sellers, too crowded etc etc and I m never going back!! Except for April next year, Im going back then
Difference this time is I want to stay outside of Rome and spend a couple days in a part of Italy I love about 30 mins from Ciampino, and also use the rail links to Termini to do a couple days in a cooler, less busy Rome doing the lesser visited sites.
My concern is Ciampino, location wise the perfect base but all the info I can find is basically it s an airport with a town around it, people go through it but cant find much in what its like as a base. Its not like we will be spending loads of time there from a tourist perspective, a couple dinners out, breakfast at local restaurants if there s nice ones, but equally if its really grotty Id rather try somewhere else.
Ive been through on the train but all I remember is seeing the airport, has anyone actually stayed there as opposed to it just being part of a travel plan?

Ciampino is not particularly nice and still as warm as Rome.
I would suggest considering either Albano/Castel Gandolfo or if you want to stay on the same railway line (FL4) then you can have a look at Frascati. All these towns are on the Castelli hills so in theory it should be cooler and more pleasant.
