My OH has a week in Athens second week in September. I’m thinking to go out and join her midweek and amuse myself for a couple of days, then we take 4 days there together at the end.

Greece has never really appealed as a destination and I’m not sure why. Looking for suggestions for things to do in the city itself and for day trips or even a stay overnight.

By amuse myself, I would hope to rent a motorbike and go off and find some decent roads, and then look to keep it on.

We have no issues driving much longer than most would consider for a day trip. We just have no real sense of what to do / where to go.

Suggestions and ideas would be most welcome.

Loads to do in and around Athens, was there for two weeks October '23 and never got bored like folks said I would. Main thing is to use the public transport as it's cheap and very good (bus, metro and tram) you can get a weekly ticket at Syntagma metro station. The circular hop on/off tourist buses will give you an idea of the layout (one of the routes goes past the corniche and beaches). For a longer trip go out to Corinth to see the ancient town and canal. If you are going to go up the Acropolis then get the earliest ticket in the morning as after 10am it will be heaving also the Acropolis museum is good. For shopping/restaurants then stroll around Plaka. PS the weather was still good in mid October and was able to spend a few days at the beach for swimming etc.
