Milan - Interesting Places to Eat & Drink
Discussion
I’m heading to Milan with a couple of mates next weekend for 3 nights and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good/interesting bars and places to eat around the city? Not looking for anywhere fancy, just good places to experience the flavour of the city and its surroundings.
We’re staying very close to Navigli but happy to travel to any other parts of the city.
Also, are there any other must see/do things that shouldn’t be missed (car related or otherwise)? At the moment, we’re thinking about a day trip up to Lake Como on the train and possibly another trip across to Brescia to visit the Mille Miglia museum if time allows?
Any advice or knowledge of hidden gems would be hugely appreciated!

The Navigli area was about the best we found for evening entertainment, lots of bars along the two canals and a standard practice seemed to be free trip to the buffet with every cocktail.

We caught the train to Monza, same route as Como you just get off earlier
Monza town is very nice and it's a pleasant walk through the Royal Park to the circuit, where you can do a lap on pushbikes, or in a minibus, a tour of the complex, and a visit to the podium.
They have karting there and you can walk along a significant length of the old banked circuit.

For authentic Lombardy cuisine and an excellent wine list, I can highly recommend this place if you find yourself in the Monza area.

I am the board chairman of our Italian subsidiary, based in Muggió a ten minute drive west of there. I visit twice a year, and a long (boozy?) lunch at Il Guscio is a definite fixture. Usually before a taxi downtown in time for the 5pm Cisalpino train from Milano Centrale back home to Geneva.

Must try risotto Al salto while out there and this is the place to try it.

Outside the centre, very local and very Italian without much English

The Alfa museum is a bit of a pain in the arse to get to without a car - it's in the middle of nowhere next to its own demolished factory, but it is walking distance from a giant mall and you can get a coach there from the central station.
It's pretty good though, especially the 1930s era stuff.
