Upto 4 hrs from Stratford-Upon-Avon, looking for a pleasant drive too so rules out The George at Rye.

Seaside would be nice, but maybe a market town.

Good food, comfortable, dog friendly. We've considered The Harbour Master @ Aberaeron or Port Merrion but neither are dog friendly.

Any ideas?

Thank you chaps.

Both fine looking pubs, but I was looking for more of a 'destination' place.

Not sure what a 'destination' place is but BlueBall is Exmoor and some lovely walks with the dogs i.e. Watersmeet or the Southwest Coastal Path.

Mill End Hotel in Chagford? Decent rooms, fantastic food, very dog friendly indeed.

Chagford is tiny, but you can easily day trip to the north or south coasts from there, so lots of towns and some fantastic beaches in easy reach.

How about these, take your pick.
The Swan at Streatley on Thames or The Great House Sonning on Thames are superb locations.
( for dogs and their owners )

The Inn At Whitewell

Really dog friendly. Nearly as many dogs as humans when we stayed. Very traditional. Great food and a comprehensive and very GVFM (by hotel standards) wine list.

Rooms vary from comfortable shabby chic to opulent.

Loads of walking nearby. Good driving roads

Some good suggestions, thank you very much.

Unfortunately walking won't be much of a thing, dog is elderly and hobbled with arthritis. 1/2 hour max.

The Inn on the Lake, Glenridding?

Although, admittedly, if walking's off the table then there isn't a great deal to do on the doorstep.

Probably at the limit of your travel distance but Headland Hotel fits the brief perfectly. We are staying there at the moment!

Interesting factoid - The Kirkstile is run by Michael Parkinson's son (who looks nowt like him). Dogs are definately allowed by the table in there

Tewkesbury Park Hotel? You haven't stated a budget so it might be too cheap for PH!
