I’m off to Tokyo in December, staying in Odaiba for a few days with work, then we’ll have a week or so to ourselves. So, I’m looking for a nice hotel, somewhere like Shinjuku, Ginza, or the station/palace area. I know they’re in total,y different areas, but we want somewhere with decent transport links, a bit of luxury and close to decent food and stuff to do.

Also, if we’ve got any Tokyo experts on here, any recs for a good day onsen with private bathing? Maybe a trip to Hakone?

The Mandarin Oriental is incredible and has the molecular Tapas bar if you want an incredible food experience.
For work I stay at the Shangri-la or the Capitol hotels, both close to the station / palace.

Hakone is obviously the place for onsen, but I don’t have familiarity with day trips - we stayed in Hakone for a couple of nights.

Strings Intercontinental, adjacent to Shinagawa station. It's swanky.

I would second the mandarin , one of my favourite hotels . The palace used to be nice too and in a good location

New Otani. Great dining, amazing views, not cheap. Had an office in the same building at one time, used to love going there

Also features in the bond film You Only Live Twice smile

I also likes staying there and The Westin in Ebisu.

Was there a couple of months ago

Stayed at the Hotel Toranomon Hills - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Excellent hotel with great views of Tokyo Tower.

Decent sized rooms and attached to a station ( one stop from Ginza ) so very easy to get around.

Would happily stay there again… View from the room

Agree - I've stayed there multiple times - it's actually Yebisu and I heartily recommend the Yebisu Brewery Museum and Tour, which is literally across the street from this hotel.

Thanks for the input everyone, some great suggestions, I’ll report back when we’ve booked.
