I’m after a decent hotel in Shrewsbury for a night away with my GF. I want somewhere nice, but not too fussy/frou frou. I’ve had a look on Booking.com but wondered if there was anywhere PHers would recommend.

It’s not for a special occasion or anything like that, but it is a treat so somewhere nice would be good.

Needs to be in town? If not Hawkstone Hall is about 15 miles outside town.

Ideally, yes. I’m back on crutches for a few weeks.

The Lion amd Pheasant on Wyle Kop. Only has about 8 rooms but very nice and the restaurant is great

Shrewsbury is quite poorly provided for decent hotels.

We've been meaning to get to Rhubarb @ Drapers Hall for food but haven't made it yet. The rooms look really nice on the website so might fit the bill. It's all very central if you are hobbling around

Thanks both. Booked in there, just the kind of place I was after. I’d seen it on booking.com but always good to get an actual recommendation.

Walrus restaurant, closest the town has to Michelin star

See if you can time it with a wine tour at Tanners.

Darwin's, little boutique hotel also worth a look
