Following on from a successful 1 week trip to Malaga town last week . Mrs and I are planning 2-4 weeks in January/February next year .
We did actually like being near the town in the last trip so we are looking for an apartment , with a balcony big enough to sit on or a terrace . Somewhere just outside Malaga, say within 3 miles so we can get the bus in . Retired couple , easy on dates and duration, great if it has sea view or near beach .

Looking for suggestions of areas or specific apartments you may have used before . Searching at Booking.com as an example, and it has literally 250 options with that criteria, so trying to narrow it down a bit .
As ever thank you .

I'm not sure if it's a factor for you, but some apartments have very competitive pricing for a month long stay and others don't.

As an example, we're renting a 2 bed apartment in Nazare for 1 month in Jan / Feb for the same price as it would have cost to rent the same apartment for 2 weeks.

Personally, I prefer to use AirBnb to look for things like this. I think the UI and the way they present properties makes it easier to figure out which properties are nice and which aren't quite so nice.

Check the local climate carefully. People who I know with homes out there avoid it in winter. That would explain the high levels of availability that your finding.

"Winter (December - February): Mild, but it is the rainiest season. Daytime highs are typically around 14C\(57F."

Florida is generally considered a better bet although it's peak season with "snow geese" heading south from colder, northern states.

Yes it's a good point. It's 4 degrees here at noon and 20 degrees in Málaga. It did rain when we were there last week. We are looking at a longer stay for a good look about. It's not all weather related. We want to do a month there in the winter to get a feeling before probably buying .

Hiya,

As I mentioned in a previous post on this subject I stay in Malaga a fair amount

I use apartments from the link below. The one in the link is my favourite.

Note this may not fit with your budget - they are not cheap. If you look at the website you'll see why. The photos are fully representative

  • edited to add - I stayed in 23, 24 and mid 25 .. the 1* review seems very unfair. I will add that the parasol is not a good idea to use when windy as it is not affixed to the floor ... Oh and the door from the terrace to the kitchen - do NOT let it close behind you (you can guess why!!)

I spend Oct to Mar in Estepona each year. Rainy days do exist, but they are well compensated by warmer sunny days. Last week storm Claudia messed up 5-days, but did not really prevent you from going out and about. Last winter was the worst we have experienced recently, before that, it was 2010/11 when it never seemed to stop raining. I would not regard weather a serious issue - compared to the U.K., it is superb. If you are not interested in getting out and about, then the Canaries can be slightly better, weatherwise.

We met a Dutch friend last Saturday and she had also met up with some Dutch friends who were paying €2,200 per month in the centre of Malaga - a great city with lots to do and see, Just outside Malaga to the west, you quickly get into Torremolinos and Fuengirola, which are less pleasant. So, I would suggest you look to the east of Malaga. Good luck.

Must say I'm usually Malaga at Easter and then Banus > Duquesa in the autumn/winter. But even so I do drive down to Malaga for activities as well - it's not really that long a drive down the A7 .. or AP7 if you want to save 5 mins and waste 10 quid

OP here:

As an update flights booked and Malaga central rental booked .
We want to do a week first somewhere else other than Malaga town , so when we arrive ,take a car for a week and go somewhere.

So now where do you suggest ? It can be quite different to Malaga town that we know well and will be in for a few weeks .
I guess 120 mins max from airport .

where shall we go ?

Thanks

Have a look at Nerja, about an hour up the coast from Malaga. We stayed there last year for 5 weeks Easter time, Airbnb.

And for the long stay, Benalmadena is just down the coast from Malaga.
We are going there for February, Airbnb.

If you are static during your time in Malaga, then perhaps a grand tour of Andalucian cities might be OK for you.

Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Cadiz. They are all interesting in their own way. If you are into seafood generally, then Cadiz has great restaurants and a fabulous market. Seville is the best all round and Cordoba less so, apart from the massive Cathedral / Mosque. They are all generally connected by good dual carriageway roads.

Most people love Ronda, I think it’s fine for a few hours but not somewhere to return to.

A day to Nerja and Frigliana as theyre close to each other ... maybe a day in Granada, although this is a couple of hours from Malaga but worth a visit as its a beautiful city with some amazing views of the snow topped mountains of Sierra Nevada. The Alhambra is in old town area of Granada, although a full museum tour (I've not done it but parents and daughter did last September) needs to be booked well in advance and takes up 3-4 hours.

Equally, there seems to be a lot of love on here for Nerja - as there was in one guide book I bought (but rapidly disposed of). I am not exactly a fan of TripAdvisor, but of the top 10 restaurants in Nerja, 4 were Indian Restaurants, which I think tells you as much about the place as it does about the people who visit.

We spent 5 days in 2024 staying up in the hills on the outskirts of Nerja - the view and outlook were fabulous but venturing into Nerja was not. It was definitely better than Torrox Costa, but that's really not much of a compliment.
