Cruises missing out ports due to bad weather
Discussion
We're on ship that has been stuck in UK since Wednesday due to bad weather in Biscay.
Not planning to leave until tomorrow afternoon.
I'm guessing ship now heads directly to Lanzarote for Christmas day missing 3 calls in Portugal and Spain
How do cruise lines handle this situation vis a vis compo. Straight cash or voucher? Or tough toots

My mum is back from a P&O Cruise today and she had extra day in Southampton due to containers in the water so missed Maderia and then missed Lanzarote and Tenerife whilst on the cruise due to weather. Sure she said she gets £100 for each missed port in her bank account.
Edit - Yes, as per the below, it is via her Travel Insurance!

We were delayed for 36 hours leaving Southampton a couple of years ago due to the BOB, we got a letter onbaord from P&O so we could claim on our travel insurance.

Very unlikely to get any form of compensation from the cruise company….why would you, the weather is hardly their fault. That’s why most companies insist on decent insurance cover…..that pays for missed ports

My partner had this same thing with an MSC cruise a couple of months ago. My partners friend got her insurance through the Post Office, they paid out in a few days for both her and her 1 year old daughter.Edit - Yes, as per the below, it is via her Travel Insurance!

I got insurance through Holiday Extras who use ERGO Travel Insurance. It took them over a month to send us a response, and basically they refused to pay out.
In future I will just use the Post Office, I would never use Holiday Extras or ERGO travel as they clearly have no intention of paying out. This was for a couple of missed ports, I dread to think what they would be like if you needed to be airlifted from the ship in a medical emergency.
