there seem to be any number of reasons to both visit and not visit any given country - and both seem to be growing daily. Given the on-going thread about the USA, I guess it might be interesting to see which countries people won't visit due to political reasons (as well as safety).

I'm going to say

USA
Russia

As places I wouldn't visit currently due to the political environment, but I would travel to should a regime change make it less unappealing to me.

There are other places that I wouldn't want to go to, but it's either not due to just the current political situation there, or I can't see it changing.

USA and Russia.

Then there's a few others I'd not be doing an Otto Wombier in.

Anywhere where citizens have access to guns basically.

I am planning on leaving the UK, London born and bred, the degradation is happening at an alarming rate now, infrastructure, environment and society.

Europe is no different, Taking another investigating trip to Egypt in Feb, So far it is looking a viable option.

I have looked at other parts of the UK, some are still OK, but for how long ?

I thought you could own firearms in Egypt.

I don't spend much time in the UK. SInce 2011, Egypt's had a revolution, a military coup, and still has an armed separatist movement that was aligned with IS for a while (a bit scarier than the SNP). The average salary appears to be under $500 a month, inflation has been well into double digits for years and the currency is all over the place. And the country next to it keeps getting bombed by Iran. If that's viable, the UK must be absolutely knackered.

The Small Arms Survey estimates there are nearly four million firearms in civilian ownership in Egypt, 90% unregistered.

Gun control across most of Europe is pretty strong. It's mainly hunters that get access.

There is, but there is an awful lot of red tape and those places have become very expensive.

Intriguing for what reason. ?

Couple of things I didn't mention,

Friends we have made in Egypt stay in touch more often than some friends here, who you often find want something when they do.

Despite so called multiculturalism that has been rammed down our throats, as a mixed race couple, black and white, with an age gap, particularly her,but we both feel much more accepted in Egypt.

That's great. I hope the Palestinians and Copts there feel the same way.

Pretty much the same set for me, but put Ukraine and Myanmar in the list instead of Cuba (at the moment).

Weird how many mention the USA but not China…

Seems bizarre that anyone would not travel to the US due to the political situation but would travel to China.
