A couple of years ago I took what proved to be a fantastic trip around Spain & Portugal in my Cayman. We took in what to me proved to me be the little-known but best roads in Europe: The Picos De Europa and Serra da Estrela mountains in Portuga,l before lazing on the beaches of the Algarve and Andalucia.

I started planning a couple of months before by asking Pistonheads for advice on this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... and then writing th trip up there. I got some great steers so I an trying it again.

So we have the same destination just south of Estepona booked in April, but this time 'er outdoors wants to head down the Eastern side of Spain rather than through Portugal. So I would welcome thoughts on what to avoid/unmissable roads, sights, towns following the eastern side of Spain? We will take the ferry to Santander and arrive early afternoon.

As a sort of aside, I SORN the Cayman (GTS 4.0) all winter, and really only use it for these trips on the mainland. I get no pleasure at all from driving anywhere in England, and although I feel a bit differently about Scotland & Wales, living close to Portsmouth, the rewarding roads of France & Spain are much more accessible. Am I the only one who views driving in England like this now?

With you all the way on English driving!
I m retiring tomorrow, Mrs SR and I have been working and living for the past two and a half years in Majorca.
If you are in the area I can t recommend Majorca more highly for good driving roads and amazing scenery. Barcelona to Palma ferry with a car around 200 euros return.

Henry Catchpole says it all, the drive to Sa Colobra is amongst the most stunning fun roads I’ve ever driven.

Anyway home is Viana do Castelo, just north of Porto also with some amazing roads. Long boring drive tomorrow and the Vantage looks like a skip car with all the tat the Mrs. wants to take.

Hey SR, Congratulations. I should have retired but am carrying on working (in case there's no one left working here in Blighty. . .)

Majorca is a wildcard for sure. That never occurred so will definitely look at the possibility!

Looking forward to the vid. By a strange coincidence I'll be in my Cayman 718 GTS 4.0.

Cheers,

SR

The vid is well worth a watch and I did see you d be driving the same model. My Vantage was a touch too wide for some of the roads there, I think the Cayman would be perfect!

Do any of you Cayman owners carry a spare wheel, like the ones from Road Hero? I ve never got further than the South of France and even then I m scared silly of getting a flat, especially on a weekend when tyre dealers are closed

I would love to take a trip further afield

Not a Cayman owner but I’ve done many long distance trips without ever giving a thought to having a flat tire. Obviously I always make sure the tires are good beforehand.
Only come unstuck once when a crater sized pothole took out both passenger side tyres in my E46 M3 somewhere in the north of London.

I'm also wondering where I'd put a 20" rear once I'd put a space-saver on...
