I did a similar trip about 10 years ago, but don't seem to be able to book the same hotels - so looking for other recommendations.

By "car friendly" I mean: Onsite parking, ideally plenty of it - and preferably not valet parking.

Might be flexible on locations, but this is the rough plan (most are a single night, but Como will probably be two):

Luxembourg
Freudenstadt
Como
Levanto (we'll be here for about a week)
Verona
Turin
Geneva
Dijon

Anybody recommend hotels they've used roughly in these areas?

Previously I’ve traveled regularly to Italy via Calais staying overnight. I’ve always booked Novotel’s or Ibis Styles outside of City Centres.

The car parks have always been secure, although I make sure that I park as far away from other cars as possible.

Don’t stay in Como- just find somewhere on the lake, or Lago Maggorie (like Grand Dino).

Personally I’d go via Alsace, stunning place, Le Schoenberg at Riqwihr has a pool and good parking

On the way back, that's possible - but on the way down I want to be the German side of the border - more specifically, the autobahn side........
