Helston, Cornwall
Discussion
My wife has a meeting she needs to attend in Helston. As we live in Cheshire it's a bit of a drag getting there of back so we are thinking of building a short break around it.
We'd be driving and will have a dog.
Has anyone got any bright ideas as to where we should stay?
A coastal village with access to nice walk and restaurant or two within striking distance. It will be at the end of April.

You have the whole Lizard point nearby. There is a well-established coastal path in Cornwall and the walk around the Lizard is incredible- most people will have seen pictures of Kynance Cove, for example. Could look at places like Mullion as a base, which is close to Helston.
Away from the Lizard, you could look at Porthleven, which has a nice beach and is very close to Helston. Further on, Marazion is nice and gives you easy access to St Michael's Mount.

There's not a huge amount to do in Helston if you need activities, but to walk around it's a stunning place, you can drive to lots of fantastic little villages around The Lizard, (Porthoustock is my go to when I have time to waste and I want to just sit somewhere) - Gweek is nearby so you can visit the seals if you like. Loe Bar beach is a good walk, you can walk from Porthleven to Gunwalloe and back for a beach walk.
Plenty to do if that's your thing, just don't expect a party atmosphere in Helston itself

ETA: What a random place for a meeting?! Is it RAF related?!
All of the above, and there's lots more.
See what you think of here to stay.

Thanks for all the suggestions - will have a look and let you know what we do. Last time I was in Cornwall was 1996, sleeping in the back of a van.
Regarding the meeting - my wife has just started her own business and part of the instruction is to review the individual face to face.
When she was self employed she would have just said "no way, Pedro", which is what all of her panel have said!
So basically it's a loss leader even though she will be able to charge a decent travel allowance.
Whichever way you cut it, it's a day's travel each way.

Everything that’s above; Porthleven a must for food, beach and views; do try The Blue Anchor Inn in Helston (while your wife’s in her meeting) for a pub step back in time; an Ann’s Pastie at Lizard; great pubs/cafes/walks on the eastern Lizard as well…Cadgwith-Coverack-St Keverne-Porthoustock-Helford.
Has whetted my appetite for a trip (also from Cheshire so as you say a few days is called for!). Enjoy!

Some excellent suggestions thanks
I would normally wing it, but need dog friendly accommodation this time and would rather stay somewhere good that us geared up for that.
Currently favouring somewhere near St Michael's Mount so we can have a mooch around there and see if it brings back some childhood memories

Yep, was there last week, owned by Roger Taylor’s son Rufus. Lovely out of season. My folks have just moved back up north from down that neck of the woods.
You can walk to Prthleven from Helston through the Penrose estate, giving you a great view once you hit the coastline and descend into Porthleven,
Lots of great places to eat. Kota and Kota-Kai in Porthleven along with The Square, or make your way over to The Shore - a 1-man kitchen run by Bruce in Penzance - if you fancy something really unique (you need to book ahead as there are no walk-ins). Tolcarne Inn, in Newlyn. If you find your way as far as Mousehole then 2 Fore Street is worth a look as well.
Perranuthnoe has a great beach that's usually relatively quiet, along with a decent beach cabin eaterie.

Porthleven. The Ship remains one of my favourite pubs to sit any enjoy the view over a few Skinners.
Loe Bar
Blue Anchor to drink Spingo (don t plan too much for the next day ).
Halzephron is nice, but not been for a while for some reason. Must call in.
I've not been there in about 40 years. My mates turned up in the evening to drive me back to Luton overnight. I was dancing happily on the dancefloor to some banging tunes from a live band, too drunk to realise that the band were only tuning up. I really should get drunk on Spingo again.Loe Bar
