It's the main reason I keep going to work hehe

Holidays would be the last thing I cancelled.

Yes!

Although to be fair we have had them booked for quite a while. I am pretty certain that we will end up paying more with a fuel surcharge but worrying about transport is the least of my concerns.

I think that providing you book holidays with a low ish deposit with the ability to cancel, then the risk is acceptble.

That said, I won’t be booking any flights going through the Middle East hubs for some time even if means longer flights than I really like.

We are due to drive to Italy and back in a few weeks time. Not too concerned about the increase in fuel prices although I would prefer them not to have risen. What I am concened about it availability. Can we expect pumps to run dry in England, France, Switzerland or Italy?

To be frank, if that point is ever reached, there will be a long list of serious things to worry about. Holidays will not be one of them.

If we all applied this level of concern to our travel plans, nobody would go anywhere, ever. That is not to diminish the impact of global conflicts but there has never been a point in time where there isn't something happening somewhere that has the propensity to disrupt things somewhere else.

I wouldn't be booking holidays in the Middle East region but other than that, book away!

i personally am a bit reticent based on the destination we've chosen (Turkeh mayyyte) but then Mrs is quite bullish so we compromised and we're going.

What does your holiday destination have to do with what your mrs looks like?

Driving to Italy too. Not too worried really, but the drive will probably be £100 or so more expensive this year compared to last. I'll just drop my driving speed by 5mph or so to help compensate.

Yep. Route 66 trip in three weeks.

Getting to the airport via train (hopefully). The station is a 10 minute walk from our house.

I'm trusting that fuel will not be too much of an issue once we are on the road.

In the grand scheme of things the increase is not going to be huge and can easily be compensated for. Certainly less than the cost of cancelling the trip at the last minute and going again when/if things settle down. Who knows when that could be!

China and Japan next month for 6 weeks.
I am a bit worried about Japan, because I know they are running low on oil and we have a hire car booked for 2 weeks as we are going to some fairly rural areas.

Already there, Hola from South America.

Got another trip booked to Oz in May (but that's not a holiday, I'm seeing the family).

Not going to hesitate to book another holiday or 2 later in the year.

I'm not that concerned about it. Airlines hedge the cost of fuel and at worse you'll be looking at a small increase in the fuel surcharge, something along the lines of £100 on a £1000 flight at a guess, similar to what we had back in 2008 when it was nearing US$150 a barrel.

I doubt we'll see a huge increase in fares as the current state of air travel is where demand is already outstripping supply (particularly where it comes to parts and new airframes), Airbus are filling their A320 family order books as soon as they open them, delays are 5-10 years on a plane. Basically we're already near what the market will bear.

I think the biggest issue for flying will be Europe to Asia/Australia. When the Iran war broke out I immediately booked a flight with Singapore as I was worried about diminished competition from the ME3. Direct flights from Europe to Asia already had to avoid Russia/Ukraine so they're flying over Azerbaijan/Georgia and down the Stans.

The cost of public charging in an EV would probably still be more expensive than current fuel prices. Plus the hour or so you've got to wait to charge it.

A petrol hybrid would be the safest bet if you had to hire something IMO.
