Haven't been there for a few years, but the Champignon Sauvage certainly used to be first rate.

Champignon Sauvage is well regarded from a food perspective but its very fusty and stuffy. It depends what you like.

Beefy Boys is great, if you like burgers

The Vine and The Railway are both really nice pubs with decent Thai food.

The Ox on Cambray place is good if you want steak (or a roast on a Sunday)

The Tivoli is another nice pub for food.

As for what to do when you're not eating or drinking, then after you've had a walk around the town centre then its time to get in the car. There are lots of interesting places within 10 - 15 miles - just make sure to avoid Gloucester and most of the villages on the way

Would also agree with Beefy Boys, The Vine and The Railway. If you like burgers, there is also The Woozy Pig (there's one in Suffolk Road and Dunkerton's Cider) and Smiths of Bourton also have a popup at Deya Brewery. The Sandford Ale House is good if you're looking for craft type beer.

I think The Ox has now closed.

It's a great place as a base to visit many of the Cotswold Villages. If you like walking in the country, search online and you'll find plenty of circular walks around Upper Slaughter, Lower Slaughter, Bouton on the Water, Guiting Power, Kineton, Naunton, Eastleach, Southrop, Winchcombe, etc. There are some very nice pubs in most of these villages. Cleeve Hill also also worth visiting for a walk and great views.

Broadway isn't far away, you can get the steam train from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway.

This place is a little gem. Proper french cooking, great portions, make sure you book, only seats around 50 people, can't recommend enough.

Deya brewery, great beers, pop up vans and an indoor pizza restaurant (The Swamp). It's by the station.

Proper Local Sunday lunch - Wheatshef in Leckhampton, excellent cook, again you need to book.

I was searching on google maps to find the characterful restaurant I visited with friends in late 2024 to add to the recommendations, and unfortunately it ended up being The Ox.... Closed September last year citing the cost of living crisis.

There are 5 or 6 pubs in the same group as the Tivoli. I believe that they are all excellent. The Bell at Langford certainly is. Worth bearing in mind if you fancy an excursion or two
