Does anyone have any local tips, restaurant recommendations, bar suggestions etc for a few days in Stockholm? Never been, found some cheap flights, and so going for a few days later this month. Will obviously be doing the Vasa museum, but nothing else set in stone. Gemini has created me an itinerary, very happy to add to it if there are suggestions.

Not very far from the Vasa museum is the ABBA museum, which you might enjoy.

Near our hotel on Nybrogaten was a wonderful seafood market called Melanders Ostermalmshallen, with several places to eat at all budgets.

I went last year and it was wonderful!

In terms of things to do I visited the Royal Armories and, apart from that, just spent a lot of time wandering. It's a great city for wandering.

I stayed in a hotel recommended on here called the Skeppsholmen which is an old naval college and I would stay there again. It's on an island in the harbour, and the island itself is worth a visit to just wander atround tbh.

We ate at the following and I would recommend them all wholeheartedly.

Meatballs for the People - it gets very busy, but is a great experience.
Lennart & Bror - had lovely burgers here, but they do all sorts of grilled meat.
Brisket & Friends - a sort of BBQ place. We went to the one on Upplandsgatan
Pat's Place - Thai tapas. Excellent.
Monster Chicken - this was my least favourite, but very nice fried chicken

We stayed out of town in Saltsjo-boo in an AirBNB on the coast, close by was an amazing restaurant called The old smokehouse, if you like your meat you have to go here, worth the trip out of town for the food and views, although the sea was under 3ft of ice and covered in snow when we were there in Feb but that made it even more magical.

Guided boat trip with great lunch was a good way to spend a few hours and see a different perspective of the city and surrounding Archipelago's from the water (had to break through quite a lot of ice).

Another vote for Skeppsholmen (might have been me that recommended it!). Even if you have your hotel sorted, Skeppsholmen itself is a nice spot which is pretty much in the centre of town but also a quiet and relaxing little island. You can get ferries from there to various places, including Vasa/ABBA museums, old town, etc. And their restaurant is good.

Also very much agree that a boat trip into the archipelago is a good idea, as is a poke around Ostermalms Saluhall, as I think has been mentioned.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed Rosendahl's Tradgard, a sort of garden centre/plant place but also really nice lunch place. And talking of cups of tea, etc, I highly recommend visiting a branch of Vete-Katten for coffee and (for example) a cardamom apple bun.

In the old town Gamla Stan there's a good restaurant called Tradition, which has all the Swedish classics done very well.

Finally left-field recommendation is Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum.

Enjoy your trip!

If you're doing the Vasa you may as well do the Wreck Museum as well - I think the ticket covers both, and the latter was surprisingly good.

Another thing I can really recommend is getting a ferry to one of the islands, which is really cost-effective - we went to Vaxholm. Cost us about £8 for 2 adults and 1 child, return journey. There's booze and snacks available on the ferries, and it's a fantastic way to just spend a couple of hours - on deck, wind in your face and seeing some of the islands. It's one of the favourite things that we did last year when we went for a few days - we went in Oct so the off-peak service had kicked in with fewer routes and more limited timetable - I can't recall when the full service kicks back in. At Vaxholm we had a spot of lunch and then went for a wander on one of the coastal paths on the eastern side of the island.
