Mexico - Playa Carmen - transport advice

Hi Guys,
Heading to Playa Del Carmen in a couple weeks for my 40th and getting some wildly varying prices for transport from hotels to the town centre (15min drive) - i've had quotes of up to £80 per day for a return trip and other places saying a taxi could be anywhere from £30-40 each way and others saying it'll be £5-15 each way....
anyone been recently and can shed some light on the actual situation?
