Anyone know Grand Cayman?
Discussion
It is expensive and watch out for mosquitos after dark. Duty free is useless, use taxis for getting around, you will meet some amazing people. East end is scuba paradise, beaches are on the western side. E warned of the huge number of cruise passengers arriving daily. Otherwise enjoy.
It’s a few years since I was there last but don’t think much has changed.
It’s a small island and much of it is swamp so the bits worth seeing are quite concentrated.
Most of the hotels will be on 7 mile beach which does what is says on tin - lovey long sandy beach. But many of the cruise ships anchor off here so can get busy. Fortunately you will be there out of season.
I lived in the Caribbean for a few years and this was always my favourite time: quieter and a bit warmer after the tourist season but before it gets unpleasantly hot and humid. I have just come back from a couple of weeks in the Antilles and it was lovely.
I always stayed in the Marriott which was very American corporate chain hotel in feel but I liked it.
There is quite a nice shopping mall behind the beach called Camana Bay but as already said (and in my experience this is true across the Caribbean) there are few savings to be had Duty Free as everything is more expensive than the UK to start with so focus on local crafts if you want to buy stuff.
I never got to swim with the rays as I was always there on business but that and the scuba diving are the big attractions. For seafood, grouper is the popular choice.
