It s about 20 years since I last visited Nice and I always had fond memories of the city.

However I ve just got back from a few days there and god it has changed for the worse.

If I were to sum it up based on my recent trip, it seems just too full . There s just people and cars everywhere. I don t remember it being so built up (hardly any open space at all other than the prom, but even that has a 3 lane dual carriageway (so 6 lanes!) running the length of it. Everyone drives like an absolute idiot, scooters everywhere being annoying and people just generally don t seem very happy. It also seemed very run down in parts (yes I know most cities do, but it seemed almost everywhere.

Won t be going back in a hurry. Did I pick a bad week or can anyone else relate?

That's a shame. 18yrs since I've been always loved it.

Go to Menton instead.

Was just there, it's definitely suffering from overcrowding and congestion more than I remember, and there's some sketchy bits, but tons going on. It's not somewhere I like to stay, but still worth the odd day or two here and there IME. I prefer it later in the year when the crowds are a down a bit.

Antibes is my go to spot, Menton is lovely too.

it's been 10 years since we were last there

we didn't stay in the city but caught the bus from nearby St Paul de Vence where we spent a very enjoyable week travelling the area

I remember it being a very bright and vibrant city with lots to see and do,

there were a few areas that felt a little unsafe with some dodgy looking people hanging around but mostly it seemed a pretty relaxed and friendly place to visit,

I also really enjoyed Antibes and Cannes

It's a place I've always fancied going back to so would be a shame if it's gone downhill a lot
