As per the title really. Heading over for work end July, will have a day and a half spare (sat/sun morning) before heading on to Sydney.

So, what to do?!

Love LoTR, so a day trip to Hobbiton appeals massively but not sure if Mrs Sway will forgive me...

Otherwise, love nature/culture/food/marine life/city experiences - pretty flexible really! Not hugely sporty nor much of a drinker.

Any tips welcomed!

We did a combined Hobbiton & Glow-worm tour. This involved a coach from Auckland to the two locations. We enjoyed both attractions - the glow-worm tunnel was relatively short but still worth doing.

There was significant retail therapy on my part at Hobbiton - had saved my pennies instead of spending them at WETA at Wellington.

And yes indeed, at the Green Dragon I got to say "This, my friend, is a pint!"

Hobbiton - I don’t care if you’re a fan of the films or not; it has immense appeal and is very well run. Just do it!

I can recommend eating at "The Depot" which is almost next to the Sky Tower on Federal Street.

July is mid-winter, so you can’t expect decent weather. Auckland isn’t a spectacular city for the casual tourist, so I’d suggest an excursion out of town for the day. If Hobbiton floats your boat then it’s a great idea!
