I'm sure this must have been discussed but I can't seem to find a relevant thread. Obviously I have also googled but still a little confused.

Thinking of booking an Etihad flight from London to South East Asia which transits in Abu Dhabi (in November)
If Etihad cancels the flight due to war related issues ie airport is attacked, airspace restrictions etc do I get a full refund?

Thanks

Might be worthwhile checking travel insurance costs.

In situations like that you could get diverted/stranded somewhere, and at the mercy of Etihad to get you home.

We booked a direct flight rather than take the risk of any disruption.

What I wanted to know was specifically if the airline just cancels the flight full stop.

Thanks

That would be ideal but direct flights to South Korea at that time are 50 to 100% greater price.

I have already got a flight booked with China Southern via china so I think that bypasses the hot spots. However I'd much rather fly with Etihad (for a slight premium) and cancel the China Southern flights.

I think they have to get you there or provide a refund. What you wouldn't get, due to war / conflict etc, is compensation.

Thanks.
The news seems to be implying that a deal between US and Iran is imminent, according to Pakistan. Obviously if it was according to Trump I'd ignore it.

If that comes through then I'd feel a lot more comfortable booking it. Only two seats left at the price I have seen so let's see.

When in November are you going? US mid-terms are 3rd November.

Would be classed as exceptional circumstance, outside the control of the airline, so would get a refund but no statutory compensation if cancelled at short notice etc

Exactly around that date. How is that relevant?

Thanks

Iran (or almost anybody really) might see it as a good time to make some mischief.

Oh I see what you mean.
But I think if a peace deal is done then no one will want to stir the hornet's nest again for a little while...?
