Road Trip - Spain - Best Car Hire Solution

SWMBO mentioned that she would like to try Mainland Spain for Summer Holiday 2027.
Being the adventurous type I suggested maybe a road trip since we usually go for a month.
Final destination would be Malaga area but would like to take in Salamanca (thanks to Croyde!) and Seville.
Unfortunately my daily is electric and the spare isn't road worthy so a hire car it has to be.
So what would be the best / cheapest solution?
Fly (where to) and then hire?
Eurostar and then hire?
Hire in the UK?

Thinking of another Spanish trip driving to the south, maybe at the end of our summer. Probably not all the way to Tenerife this time, but who knows.
The ferries are crippling in cost so, as others have said, if you are hiring a car, fly.
Cicar are my favourites for cars with no messing about with CDW, it's included and reasonable prices. I usually rent for 2 weeks to 5 weeks and it's never broken the bank.
Used to be Canarias only but I think they are on the mainland now as well. Might be only the South.

Fly drive, much cheaper than a ferry.
If you are going for a month you need to determine where you want to start, you've mentioned where you want to finish so you're 1/2 way there.
The only thing I can recommend is looking on-line at car hire and don't sign up to one via Easyjet/Ryanair etc if you are flying with them, nothing wrong with the cars but most people flying book with them which means the queue for the desk is usually huge.
What you see on-line will also be upsold when you get to the desk, extra insurance, breakdown cover etc only you can decide whether you want it or not. In my experience most Spanish rentals always have some battle scars as it's just a tool so don't be alarmed if you get one with a few scratches and dents, just make sure they are recorded. Last once I had last September was OK but the key fob battery died after a day or two so had to find a shop selling batteries to unlock the car.

I would look at Northern Spain, some beautiful towns and villages. Seville and Salamanca can be 40c+ in the summer months.
Seville is a beautiful city, on a par with Valencia. Salamanca is ok, but not dissimilar to most Spanish cities. We have done around 18 months out of the last 3 years travelling around Spain in the motorhome and find mid and Northern Spain a lot nicer than the Costas.
We live in the Costa Blanca and head up to Northern Spain for the summer, in the motorhome its a lot cooler. We got the ferry booked from Plymouth/ Santander next week.
Just got a week left of our 3 week trip in the UK, cant wait to get out of the place. Then its 2 months around Northern Spain/Portugal to recover, before heading home.
Seville is a beautiful city, on a par with Valencia. Salamanca is ok, but not dissimilar to most Spanish cities. We have done around 18 months out of the last 3 years travelling around Spain in the motorhome and find mid and Northern Spain a lot nicer than the Costas.

We rented an AirBnb on the north coast in Galicia a few weeks ago.
It was blissful. The AirBnb was right on the beach and the sound of the waves was so relaxing. The roads were amazing quiet and great fun to drive on.
We came back Santander -> Plymouth, but if you're going to be using a hire car then very definitely fly to somewhere in Spain and pick up a car from there. It shouldn't be too hard to put together a circular itinerary that's fun and will save you one way rental charges.
Personally, I'd kick off in a city close to the airport and collect the hire car a couple of days later. That way the car rental desks at the airport are irrelevant. For maximum convenience, get the hire car delivered to your hotel on the morning you're checking out.
