Never been, but you're a 2 hr drive from Indianapolis, Lexington and Louisville if you have a car, might open up options

Will you have a car? The US airforce museum in Dayton is less than an hour away and a great day out. Look at the dates you’ll be there - there’s often events or stuff on downtown by the river. The stadiums are all by there too for baseball, hockey or ‘murican football

No hockey or NFL on at the moment, forget baseball it’s boring as hell . Can’t be much help I’m afraid.

I am lead to believe that the local culinary delicacy is gloriously dreadful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyline_Chili

I would have seconded the USAF Museum, but it sounds like that's too far away.

Decent eateries on a budget, walking, stuff to see. Just to get a flavour of the place in 2 days.

I live just outside of Cincy and have an office downtown. It's a great city.

The zoo is one of the better ones in the US, it's very different and quite olde worlde feeling. Union terminal and the various museums are excellent too. There's some nice walks and parks down by the riverfront too. Take a look for any festivals / street fairs etc going on while you're here - there's tons throughout summer and fall and some are brilliant. I'm not a baseball fan but do enjoy catching a Reds game still, it's just a nice way to waste a few hours.

Over-the-Rhine (everyone just calls it OTR) is the neighborhood for food and boozing, some great places there. It's on the north side of town.

It's a safe bet mass transit will be awful compared to the UK as per most of America - never tried it - the transit app is what gets used to navigate it I believe. I'd just hire a car or get an uber - it's a very car friendly city.

Everyone says try Skyline. It's mid at best and very mace / allspice forward, served on spaghetti - yes really. Their cheese dogs are better. Graeters Ice Cream, however, is some of the best anywhere and should be sought out, black raspberry chocolate chip.

Spent 10 days there on business once.

Not much to do.

Shooting ranges if you have someone to go with (back then they didn't allow solo shooters in case they wandered in to borrow a gun to shoot themselves! Tells you a lot about the place...).

We found somewhere to ski in the next state, amazingly, but you won't this time of year.

Could take in a ball game (some people i was with did) or drive, as someone already suggested, to Indianpolis and visit the museum at the track.

As a counterpoint to the above, a baseball game is pretty 1980's america, if you wamt to experience it- between the OTT singing of the national anthem, ceremonial first pitch, the organ special effects, beer & hotdogs.

Worth it, if youve never experienced it before.

Slow as hell though. 30 se onds to a minute of absolute nothing, then 10 seconds of action.

Hap's Irish Pub - Erie Ave, Hyde Park.

I spent a lot of time in that bar, during my time in the Queen City.

As mentioned, the zoo is great - but Over the Rhine used to be downright dangerous back in the 90's and early 2000's.

Kings Island is worth a visit - and definitely include the USAF museum at Dayton.

Metamora IN is also an interesting, historic town and who could possibly overlook Big Bone Lick State Historical site in Northern KY!

The Reds ballpark is one of the most iconic in the country - a modern iteration of the classic horseshoe layout. Most definitely worth an afternoon/evening if this is a new experience for you. My father worked for P&G (headquartered in Cinci) so we got to see many great NFL and MLB games from the executive suites at the old Riverfront Stadium, before they demolished it and replaced it with Paycor Stadium and the Great American Ballpark.

Thanks all, some great info. Graeter's ice cream was already on my radar. Enough in the above replies to keep me going for 2 days.

It's nothing like the OTR of old thankfully, billions in redevelopment in the last 20 years and cash is still pouring in.
South OTR is the place for good food and nightlife in Cincy these days, save for a few of the fancier restaurants downtown.

Definitely not utopia just yet but it continues to enjoy a real renaissance.

A few things there that triggered my memories. Skyline Chili is, as described, quite mediocre. Try it to say that you have!

Graeters ice cream is good.

The Zoo (I went ~20 years ago) was good.

There was a German restaurant near the center that's recommended, but I forget the name.

I got this reply from my friend who was born there. For context age mid fifties.

“If the person has some daytime time, Findley market downtown is really cool and there’s lots of vendors inside with relatively inexpensive options. The area around it is called Over the Rhine and there’s a lot of cool up and coming places and some nice breweries, including Rhinegeist. There are some sketchy areas mixed in with the gentrified so it’s important to pay attention to where you are in that area. There’s also a street car that runs around downtown and I think you could pick it up at Findley market and get to the river waterfront Parks that are really cool. A lot depends on where the person is staying too. Other cool things in the Cincinnati area include the American Sign Museum, which is just over the river in northern Kentucky, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the Cincinnati zoo. Mount Adams is another nice area with a really beautiful park and the art museum if a person is into those sorts of things. The person absolutely must get a scoop of Graeter’s black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream.”
