Changing a Ryanair flight.
Discussion
I maybe wrong but I don't think you can. It's just a case of abandoning the flight and booking a new one. If there's relevant reason it may be that you can claim the expense in your travel insurance.
Before everyone lays into Ryanair, even the premium carriers make it difficult to change flights unless you're travelling business class or above, or you paid the premium for a flexible ticket.

I was taken ill whilst in Portugal which meant I couldn't fly back until a week later. Went on Ryanair website and changed the flights for wife and me without any issues. Cost 90 euros to change the two flights and claimed it back from the travel insurance. Most impressed with how easy it was. Not sure how it would work in the OP's situation tho'.
I eventually got hold of the web chat after a few false starts. The January flight I wanted wasn't available yet, and the cost to change the name to my wife's for a flight to Ireland next month was more than the flight costs.
I was considering changing to a random flight in a month but there's every chance the flight would cost less than the admin charges so I have let it go.
Unfortunately life just got in the way of my weekend away so an insurance claim isn't an option.
ETA In case anyone has a similar issue... I asked about a credit note and computer unsurprisingly said no.
