I don’t normally but Mrs A and I had a fabulous time at a hotel in Pissouri, Cyprus, 2 years ago and will definitely be going back either 27 or 28.I have just booked a second holiday back to the same hotel we went to a couple of years ago. We've done each of a couple of the Barut Collection resorts in Turkey a couple of times. Booked to go back to one of them for a third time next year. Both previous times we were in the same room (by request the second time).
Done DisneyWorld many times and have stayed in Port Orleans French Quarter probably half-a-dozen times. Preferred that resort as it's much smaller than the others.

Hotels are rarely part of the holiday, just somewhere to sleep while on holiday so if I'm going back to the same place and the hotel I used last time worked I'll often use the same hotel. I mean why book somewhere more expensive or less convenient for what I want to do if a hotel I know my way around is available?
That said I'm not wedded to those hotel's either so I wouldn't postpone a holiday because my usual hotel was fully booked but others available.

With just one exception, a Hotel we use in France whilst travelling south , we now never go back to a previous hotel, or destination.
We did it quite a bit and without exception got disappointed.
We now say never go back.
Did it in Italy at Garda , a Chateau in France, apartment in Málaga, apartment in Menorca . None of them were as good the second time . I find this with resteraunts too and wives.

Been going back to the same place in Greece for the past 20 years, mostly at this time of year. Heading off early Sunday for this year’s trip.
The attraction is less the accommodation, as that is typically Greek, ie basic, bur the range of boats available to take sailing plus the usually reliable afternoon thermal winds.

I disagree that a hotel is just somewhere to sleep. They can be a destination in their own right. Indeed on road trips one of the key focal points is having hotels that are a destination.
For example I stayed here in May
For work, I have my preferred hotels, eg Hotel Gotham in Manchester, Park Plaza in London (I am always upgraded to a suite)

I've done it once when we wanted a last minute break purely because we didn't have the time or inclination to do any research, we just wanted to relax for a bit and we knew it was nice.
I grew up staying in the same hotel on Longboat Key every summer because my parents are creatures of habit and they became friends with a number of families and I subsequently became friends with their kids and grew up with them over many years as we always went the same dates.
My wife doesn't even like going back to the same countries.

With so much world to explore it seems sad to return to the same place. I’d like our kids to have seen as many different countries as possible before they fly the nest.
We’ve stayed for weekends at a friends place in Cornwall and although delightful a weekend seems enough… I then want to be somewhere new.

Off to Cornwall in a few weeks time for our usual 4-5 days out of season break that we do usually twice a year. This will be our 12th stay in succession in the same hotel, same room too! Previously we stayed in a different hotel in the same town maybe 15 times in succession. We "defected" from there when its standards deteriorated.
Why the same hotel? It's a mixture of location, facilities, quality, good food, ambience, staff, familiarisation etc.

Abu Dabi - took the kids and they had a great time, safe, friendly and activities for the kids.
2yrs later we needed a short trip to get some sunshine and went back to the same place.
They upgraded us to a garden villa. Adults delighted. The 7&10yr old less so ..
Some of the staff were the same and remembered us (prob the kids) and made it even more special.

Those are exactly the reasons that we also return to the same hotels.R.
Also, you know what you are going to get.
Staff also make a huge difference. For example, we've been to the same hotel 3 times in Pathos, and some people had been returning 20+ times. It's quite a big hotel, and was run by a married couple. When they left, people were really upset judging by the Trip Advisor reviews.
But in any case, is it odd to return? I dont think its any different to going to the same restaurant over and over again.
