40th Holiday with young kids - Where to go?

Looking to book beginning of October. Really struggling with inspiration! Recently went to Kos in May and it was bloody awful.
My partners 40th so looking for somewhere that’ll feel semi special. We have two boys, 4 & 20 months (also not adverse to taking the dog if drivable).
No long haul, max 4-5 hours but preferably 2-3 hour flight or euro drive. 7-10 day trip. Midland/bristol/cardiff airports.
Want enough to do for the kids without going to a dedicated all inclusive and not so much sight seeing that it turns into a frustrating city break doing loads of travelling.
Trying to avoid the canaries and all inclusive feel. Considered Garda, Lisbon & Switzerland. Would like reliable weather, not necessarily boiling hot but avoiding rain.
All ears - experiences and advice welcome. Would have liked to delay a little longer until the weather is nicer closer to home - south france etc but she’s adamant we go in October!

I did Mallorca a few times when my kids were younger - Pollença is where we went. The old town is lovely and the port (which feels more beach/seaside than port) is great too.
October is comfortably warm - mid 20's.
I've read a few recent reviews that it's become more expensive, but I have no idea where the reviewers are comparing it to.

Depends when in October. Early, plenty of options. Late October (half term - I'm guessing not your issue given the ages) and anywhere in Europe can be dodgy weather-wise.
I often go on Cycling holidays in the first 2 weeks of October. Mallorca, South of France, Northern Italy, Girona and it is normally good. 20-25 degrees, decent amounts of sun, but cool in the evening.
But when we've tried to go away over half-term, it's always a risk. We've done Sani in October twice. Once nice, once a rained. Likewise southern Spain.
Morocco would be nice that time of year, but not quite so kid friendly. Likewise the proper parts of Egypt - late October is the best time for Luxor etc (along with May) but likewise, not overly 20month/4yr old friendly.
We will now just book very last minute based on weather forecasts a few days before.

PdP is a lovely resort, but I've heard the same thing - prices are now a little excessive for what it is.October is comfortably warm - mid 20's.

There are some nice little Cala's in the SE of the island with small sheltered beaches which would be perfect for 2 young kids - we really liked Cala d'Or when we were in a similar position...there (is/used-to-be?) a road-train that runs from the hotels at the back down to the marina / to the resort centre, the marina always used to have a few good restaurants with a water-front vibe.
Other options:-
- Don't discount Greece based on Kos. We were in Rethymno, Crete last August (also not as cheap as expected), and enjoyed that break...Crete will definitely still be open in October and there's a range of towns and hotels to suit budget and preferences (we day-visited a 5* place north-centre with a good sized and well-run water park at the top of the hill next to it - kids slides as well as adults).
- Sicily / Malta will probably also be warm enough, as I'd wager (but don't know) will Croatia.
