I might have to go there for a few for work. I have no idea about it, been reading up and will need yellow fever jabs. Other than that, has anyone been and what’s it like?
Thanks

Been many times on business. Usual West Africa feel to it. Stay with organised transport and guides. If not you can expect close interest in your money, watches and personal possessions. No better or worse than Lagos for instance.

I have an Italian friend that supports an orphanage in Angola and they find it a very frustrating place to try to get anything done. Some of their experiences there have left me rather shocked. The orphanage is in a rural area and the local people seem to be very traditional with a mixture of religions practiced at the same time according to my friend.

It will be my first time working in Africa - I am normally in Asia, Middle East or the US. So this is a first

Flights look like a transit through Germany with lufthansa which is okay I guess.

I will be heading there for BMW so transport etc will be arranged and I guess I will be either in the office or hotel only. No walking around

From my brief conversations the office is doing quite well and selling some cars hence me going over. They have just sold 40 new 7 series to the government for example

BA used to go direct on a Tuesday. That was when it was a winter location for Scottish and Russian oil workers to make some money. Air Portugal were the only other carrier I saw coming in and out.

I have been countless times, Luanda is fairly safe throughout the day in the centra and down the beach front area not as safe on a night. Keep a few £ of local currency to hand as getting stopped by the Police is fairly common and its just easier to hand over a little and they let you leave.

Yellow fever jab is needed and normally they require to see your booklet on arrival before passport control. You will need malaria meds my suggestion would be take these in the morning rather than on a night for me anyway it lowers the madness of the dreams on a night!

The new airport is a bit out of the city but its actually fairly good (Chinese built). There is a nice burger place in the airport before you go to departures.

Its expensive!! almost everything is imported but the local beer is decent enough and that is one thing that is fairly priced.

Haven't been there for over 10 years, but remember the queues at immigration. Checking of the yellow fever cert and if you didn't have it the option of having it there and then.

Used to fly BA to Jo'burg then get SAA to Luanda. Worked at Torres Atlântico and flew up to Soyo frequently. Happy days.
