Would you let ChatGPT plan your holiday
Discussion
We are going to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam at the end of January for 3 weeks. We only wanted to do Cambodia and Vietnam, but the BIL is getting married in Bangkok. So we were looking at staying in Bangkok for 4 nights, then flying to Cambodia, then flying on to Vietnam.
We have already booked the flights to Bangkok and nothing else yet. Would you let ChatGPT sort out your itinerary. We used ChatGPT around Japan a few weeks ago and it was fine.

I've used it to give me some ideas and things to see and do which has save me time on trawling through various web pages etc.
Would I let is plan my whole trip from start to finish, maybe not.
Weirdly, I did a cycling holiday 2 years ago Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand we then flew back to Vietnam to visit several places that weren't on the cycling itinerary. So if you have any questions I may be able to help.

I just did.
I had 6 days in Singapore watching the rather boring Grand Prix. Due to the gates opening at 1:30 Fri, 2pm Sat and 3pm Sun I had all the mornings and a few full days to explore. I had a seat so did not need to rush in to get a view point, but did want to see all the track action.
I told Chatgpt where my hotel was and it took into account the MRT lines, the time to travel and sorted me out with an agenda and navigation. I told it what I liked to eat and it recommended some food stops. Told me what time some of the locations opened, recommend going during the day or night time. Worked really well.
It did not of course sort my flights or hotel but as a concierge type service for seeing the sites without going backwards and forwards it worked really well.

I'd be double-checking everything just like I would an intern's piece of work.
Or you could just take a big risk. You never know. It might all work out in the end. Sure, you might turn up to some locations wondering why it's closed even though Chatty said it would be open at 3am and now you're stranded in a remote jungle village.

I asked chatgpt when i should collect my prescription, i went and it was closed, the website clearly showed the pharmacy shuts for 4 hours over lunch (rural surgery)
I hope you informed it of the correct hours so it can learn!I asked chatgpt when i should collect my prescription, i went and it was closed, the website clearly showed the pharmacy shuts for 4 hours over lunch (rural surgery)

I used it to plan an itinerary for a day trip to Florence. It did a good job.
I've just used it to plan 2 days in Lisbon and 4 days in Cabo Verde - I did a lot of independent research as well but came up with nothing that AI hadn't already factored in.I normally do all the planning for my trips manually, I'm interested to see how accurate this turns out to be
Thanks for the replies, apparently we are in Bangkok for 3 nighs and the hotel is already booked. Chat is recommending flying to Siem Reap for temples or Phnom Penh, as we want to visit the killing fields, it's Phnom penh.
Has anyone here been to the killing fields and any other recommendations around Phnom Penh.

Have done this in reverse.
Hk 3 nights, Vietnam 2 weeks, Cambodia 10 days, Bangkok 2nights.
If I went back I'd do more time in Vietnam and skip Bangkok completely.
In answer to your question. Not completely but to help build an itinerary and get suggestions of where to visit definitely.
As for your questions above. S21 prison and killing fields are very sobering but worth a visit. I didn't realise the extent of the atrocities until I visited. Grab a cocktail at Raffles and if you've got a good stomach the bug bar I think it's called is an experience.
Siem reap temples are amazing but try to find a local moped to hire as you'll be able to go at your own pace for just a few quid a day and it's easy enough to work your way around. The tuktuks are horribly slow to sit in especially in those temperatures.

You: I went and it was closed!
Chatty: Oh yes, I am so sorry, the pharmacy shuts for 4 hours over lunch as per the website! Perhaps I can create a route for you to visit it again or give you advice on the best medication to take for humans? Just tell me - how many legs do you have: 4 or 5?

I've been to both and also a prison campus in Phnom Penh.Has anyone here been to the killing fields and any other recommendations around Phnom Penh.
Killing fields are sobering as is the prison, Phnom Penh is OK big city etc etc.
Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples are well worth seeing also you will need photo ID and buy a permit/pass before you can visit, Siem Reap is the closest town, it has great nightlife beer street is well worth a look.
Going to New Zealand for 5 weeks to visit our daughter. She lives in Hamilton and we wanted to tour the north island but but close to Hamilton so we could meet up at weekends. ChatGPT was very patient and created a comprehensive tour suggesting things to see and places to stay. I’m sure it made a better job than we could have just using guide books.
