Bruges - any sports bars?
Discussion
Going to Bruges this weekend via the chunnel. Obviously we are going over to sample the fine Belgian culture of beer, chips and chocolate... however it also happens to be 6 Nations weekend.
Would anyone have any recommendations for where we can watch us spank the Eyetalians?
Oh, any other top tips would be great too
Merci beaucoup!!

The "Sports" bar in Bruges is quite easy to find. Go to "Markt", and stand with your back to the stump. Across the square, there is a row of maybe six or seven restaurants in front of you. To the left of these is another set of restaurants, three or four, joined together. Between these groups of restaurants is a narrow side street. Go up this street, as the street enters a small square, the sports pub is on the right hand side. You can't miss it, every time I've been by the TV's have been on and noise coming out of it. No other bar in Bruges is anything like as noisy.Would anyone have any recommendations for where we can watch us spank the Eyetalians?

When they've beaten Italy, you might want to go to a bar with better beer. Go back to "Markt", as soon as you get there, turn left and go in front of the restaurants, and up the street in front of you (to the left of the Council House). Go past the "Bier Temple" shop (over 800 beers for sale in there) and another 50 yards on the same (LH) side of the road is a bar just after the church. That's my favourite bar in the whole world.
Have a good one.
Thank you kind sir. After receiving no response from the font of all knowledge that is PH, I resorted to google. A few travel forum threads later I've found somewhere on Burg called Celtic Ireland Bruges? Sound familiar?
Cheers for the other tips as well - the other you suggested isn't Galle is it (or something like that?!)

The bar is called Cambrinus. Don't recognise Celtic Ireland, I'm afraid. The Cambrinus bar is the drinking outlet for the Bier Temple shop, on Philipstockstraat. It's only a few yards from Celtic Ireland.Cheers for the other tips as well - the other you suggested isn't Galle is it (or something like that?!)
Check out the reviews on google. They give you a directory of the beers they stock. I say directory because it's the size and thickness of a telephone directory.

So, how did you get on?
Great. I love Belgian beer.Found Cambrinus and spent the entire Friday evening in there sampling numerous fabulous beers, as well as a pretty hefty steak. I can see why it's your favourite bar! We bought a few beers and glasses not from the Bier Temple, but a shop south of the large church heading down towards the Swans/Horses - the goods were approximately 30-40% cheaper. For example a box set of 4 Kwaks with 2 of the glasses and a stand (the mini yard of ale type which have the wooden stand) were 35E in Bier Temple, but 25E in the shop we found.
Saturday was a nice walk around, touristy stuff followed by Liverpool drubbing Utd, and Wales scraping past the Italians. Unfortunately I underestimated quite how strong Brugge Triple is, and the rest of Saturday is a bit of a blur. Shame on me, but its not often we put 4 past Utd at Old Trafford.
Sunday was more touristy stuff, boat trip etc, couple of museums, ate at a lovely restaurant just by the church called Maria something or other - they cook the steaks in front of you on an open fire. We opted for a Flemish stew though for the local taste, and it was lovely.
All in all a great weekend, Brugge is very chilled out and the beer is awesome. And thanks for your tips, very handy.
Oh, and the Boxster performed faultlessly. Cruised at around a ton all the way there and back, returning about 30mpg in the process! Eurotunnel is also excellent (my first time) - very quick and flexible when you show up early. We left Brugge at 9.30am yesterday, and were home in South Wales by 2.30pm. That's the way to travel!

Glad you enjoyed it. I know the other shop, they don't have quite the range of the Bier Temple, although I'm surprised at the price difference being THAT great.
I had my first beer in Bruges at that restaurant, very nice it is too. Love stew Flemish style, very tasty and filling.
Bruges Trippel catches lots of people out, very moor-ish.

I'm not one for 'thread resurrection' normally but when you google 'bruges sports bars' and this thread is No.1 I thought it was prudent.
I went before Christmas and had a great time with the ice rink, german markets, hundreds of beers etc. But I'm going for the weekend on the Dover > Dunkirk ferry next Saturday (£19 car + 2 pax) and will be there while the Haye fight is on.
I've got a feeling the fight is free to air in Europe so does anyone have any tips for the bars to check while I'm there while I'm maximising the amount of Chimay Blues I can consume!

I have no sports bar tips, but drink Zot or I'll punch you in the face.I went before Christmas and had a great time with the ice rink, german markets, hundreds of beers etc. But I'm going for the weekend on the Dover > Dunkirk ferry next Saturday (£19 car + 2 pax) and will be there while the Haye fight is on.

That is all.
Funny, but I just don't like Zot. Or Orval.
Still, each to their own, eh?
We got taken to Bruges as a works outing last year, had a reception with the Mayor and stuff, and got to see the most incredible ceiling ever. Go to the square with the Crowne Plaza/Church of the Holy Blood, in through the doorway in the building along from the church. Up the stairs at the end, through the doorway, look up.
If you don't have your jaw drop open, you just don't understand craftsmanship.
