Guys,

Heading over for a few days in a week or so - looking for some decent restaurant recommendations!

A bit sick of some places I go - going to pass on Nobu - and as we will have the kids want to go to some places I probably wouldnt usually frequent.

For steak I was thinking of "Quality Meats" - heard good things about it and didnt want to go to a chain like S&W - there was another place in mid-Town (in a hotel I think) but I cant remember the name??

Italian? - struggling here - havent really had a good Italian in New York before! - Can someone recommend a very VERY good and nice but "homely" Italian near Mid-Town ?.....somehwere that you could imagine the "mob" eating??!!

Chinese - The kids love Chinese - but whenever I go to any Chinatown's anywhere in the world - they always seem to be full of tourist traps - can anyone recommend either a really good stand-alone Chinese restaurant - or somewhere good in Chinatown??

any other restaurants or places we shoud try??

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Steak - S&W not too bad. Could try venturing over the water into Brooklyn to Peter Luger's. These chaps take their steak very seriously

Italian - Try Frankie & Johnnie's - defo mob atmosphere and the food is not too bad at all.

Chinese - most of the Chinese have moved to Queens so virtually all of Chinatown is a tourist trap, but you could try a place called Amazing 66 on Mott St. Always packed with locals and has quite a few "interesting" items on the menu. I'll admit I've not been brave enough to have the duck's tounges yet

A quick bit more research with colleagues and I'll update again for you tomorrow

Cant really help on the Italian but can recomend The New York Palace, The Trump and Pigale off Times Sq, the latter is great for breakfast. Also, if you like cheesecake you got to try Juniors in the Theater District(Broadway).

Ruby Foo's on Broadway for chinese - great atmosphere, you can pop in for sushi or go for the full on experience!

Not on your list but Brooklyn Diner is great for breakfasts.

Italian?

http://www.roccoristorante.com/

Went on a Tuesday night, and it was perfection. Went back on the Saturday, and although full, they conjured a table from somewhere and made us feel like old friends.

Steak?

Never tasted meat like it. And never seen portions as big either.

Ramsay at The London, just about the most expensive meal I've ever had, but it was very nice.

Not only a great steak, but an occasion where you see them cook it.

At $1.38 to the pound, nothing is tourist friendly!

The spotted pig - more of a gastro pub (with a Michelin star) then an actual restaurant - but it's a great place to go.

The Burger with Roquefort Cheese & Shoestrings is the best burger I've ever had !!

Craftsteak on Tenth Avenue. Not cheap, but the best steak I ever had, and a massive range.
