a mate of mine is planning his 21st there for a long weekend (probably 3 nights)
just looking for a bit of info (other than google) about decent places to go for a night out, things to do/check out during the day.

is english a problem (ignorant tourist stylee), i have until august to brush up on my swedish!

any silly laws to be careful of? drinking on the streets, tying people to lampposts etc.
not that we're planning on doing any of this stuff, honest occifer whistle

Fantastic city. Lovely people. Don't act like a bunch of idiots - it's completely against the culture and pointless.

Have fun, drink beer and Aquavit, and enjoy.

For nightlife try Gamla Stan (old city) for bars and restaurants and the area close to "the mushroom" up Birger Jarlsgatan.

A real stag thing to do, if it's running yet (ice bound harbours) is rib boat riding out in the archipeligo. Or you could go and watch ice hockey at the stadium.

There is an amusement park on Djurgartan, but probably closed for the winter.

Great shopping in town - go to NK department store on Hamngatan.

For another good bar, go to the Opera bar - not cheap, but classy and fun.

That's all I can remember for the minute, but you'll have a great time. Once you are in the city, everything is close by - ask the locals - they are very friendly.

Where are you staying?

It's going to be expensive. When I went ten years ago it was £5 per pint.

Yes, head for the mushroom.

'going at the beginning of August' : do check because most of Sweden takes August off: they all go off to their Fritidhuset and drink aquavit and eat crayfish.

I got a job out there upgrading some kit while the works were off, ended up eating at McDonald's a couple of times because the rest of the places were closed. Mind you that was in Trollhattan which is a hick town compared with Stockholm.
