Hi,
I am looking to go to Malaysia at the end of the month. I have 10 days to spare, and I'd like to see KL but also have a few days on a beach (Penang perhaps).

Has anyone done a similar trip and can offer me advice on how easy it is to get around?

Thanks

rsv gone!

You've posted this in the right section but you'll get better responses if you pop over to the Asia sub-forum.

Was in KL only last week, great place to be IMHO. If you are looking to get to Penang try Firefly, they are a low cost airline - fly to Penang, koh samui etc most days, they fly out of Subang airport (on Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang) which is located north of Sepang International.

Air Asia are pretty cheap and have plenty of flights to Penang or Langkawi. Just be careful with their insurance as their web page is set out to be obtusive so they get folk buying it when they don't want it. (Yes, this happened to me at Christmas....)

If you book your flights with Malaysian Airlines it could be cheaper to do a LHR-KUL-PEN return. We went to Langkawi this year, 5 nights in KL 5 nights at the Sheraton in Langkawi. Our flights from LHR were with Malaysian but the KUL-LGK were with Air Asia which is from the Low cost carrier terminal which can be a pain. Really easy to get around in Langkawi, just hire a car! I'm not to sure what Penang's like but my colleagues been and she had no problem getting around.

Anyway wouldn't go back to Langkawi.

I'm not to keen on Penang. I didn't think the beaches or water was good.

I've been to Pulao Pangkor on the west coast and the amazing Redang on the east as part of the prehentian islands

East coast is really nice. or catch a flight over to Borneo. Some stunning locations, one huge mountain, acres of forest and some orang-utans too..
