Do the US insist on having six months left on your passport following a trip, or are they happy for it just to be valid?

My son's passport will be a few days out of the six months on the day we fly back to the UK. Does he need a new one?

Ok, as far as I can tell, normally a passport must be valid for 6 months past the expected stay, but the UK is among countries with an exemption, they will normally then only admit the person until the date of expiry, so you will easily be ok!

If, for example, you were going for two weeks and the passport expired after a month, they would give a visa until then, rather than the normal 90 days.
