Hi all. Trying to decide which Vegas hotel to book in October for the week. I know the Venetian is meant to be the place to stay but it's rather expensive and we don't really need a suite as we intend to be out and about.

Choices are :

Venetian approx £1000 PP

Mandalay Bay, Caesars Palace, Bellagio approx £650 PP

MGM, Hilton and many others approx £500

I'm thinking the Bellagio looks best value but tempted by the MGM as it's a big name and inexpensive.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Kinky

We stayed in the Bellagio a few years ago - lovely hotel and one of the nicest casinos on the strip. Oh, and the breakfast buffet is fantastic.

I was slightly unimpressed with the MGM as it all seemed a little 'dated' when I was there...

We stayed in the Venetian some years ago, thought it was excellent. I know you say you don't intend to spend much time there, but if you are driven purely by price, you'd stay off strip? Having said that if the price differential is as big as you say???

In any case, if you don't stay there, you must visit the Venetian for the 'public' areas, stunning

If you're just going on price make sure that you are comparing like with like. Most hotels in Vegas are pretty evenly priced room size for room size, facilities, views etc. Caesars palace alone has around 5 prices for different room sizes/styles/views. Remember Harrahs owns Harrahs, Caesars Palance, Paris, Flamingo and Rio; the Ventian and Pallazo are the same group; and MGM Mirage own MGM Grand, Bellagio, the Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, New York and the Monte Carlo. It's all engineered to get what you pay for (and not get what you don't) - a room at every rate etc. If Ceasars is $600 versus $1000 in the Venetion then it will be a smaller room, or less view etc. Check out all the actual hotel web sites (not just something like Expedia) to make sure of the diferent room types.

For me - Caesars is Vegas, and Vegas is Caesars. Not the 'best' (although the pools are amoungst the best - but were closed for refurbishment most of last year so haven't seen the new pool areas yet) but I like the atmosphere. Plus a good location on the strip (although in fairness the Venetion is pretty much just across the road). Lots of the more modern hotels (apart from having casinos) could be in almost any resort anywhere. I expect we'll find ourselves back at Caesars again in July some time smile

Thanks for all the info so far. Forgot to mention the prices I quoted are per person including a flight, so even the most expensive option is actually quite reasonable! I think it will be Caesars or the bellagio, still trying to decide though.

A group of us stayed in the MGM last year and we are going back there this year.

Purely based on price (lads holiday) I like the MGM and you really don't spend that much time in your room. However if I had more of a choice I would stay in the Bellagio, by far the best "Vegas" hotel. The Wynn is new and amazing but it isn't the Bellagio.

Good luck and one other thing... You will LOVE it!

Those are bloody good prices if they include flights too! Enjoy wherever you stay but I'd probably say Bellagio smile

We are staying at the new 2000 room, 50 storey Wynn hotel - Encore (next door to the original), which looks pretty good, and you will be able to share both places facilities, pools, spa etc. 700 square foot room, LCD in bathroom etc etc.

Best deal by far was through Expedia, and I rang around a lot of places for comparison, who seem to have a special deal on the Wynn at the moment.

We're going in July which is a cheaper time of year, people head for the beach I guess, and Vegas is in a desert, so understandably will be very hot.

I would prefer to have stayed at a hotel like Ceasar's or the Bellagio just for history's sake, and it's great being in the middle of the strip adn the action but the Wynn deal was just too tempting (4 nights, direct flights from Gatwick and accommodation for £650 pp). Personally I don't like the Venetian, which seemed a bit soulless (yes, even for Vegas!), and the Wynn does seem to have a "cooler" vibe.

Just to let you know, BA are starting a scheduled direct flight from Heathrow in October, so joining Virgin as the only other operator from the Southern UK that flies direct (10 hour flight as opposed to 12/15/18 hours if you change.

The Wynn and MGM Signature are lovely.

Try Hotwire.com - we stayed at the Wynn last month via them and it was the cheapest room ($109) of our whole 3 week trip across California, which included some decidedly average motels!

That's an absolutely astonishing price for the Wynn - but with Hotwire you wouldn't have known it was the Wynn until you committed, would you?

I've stayed at the MGM, Bellagio and Venetian.

In order of preference:

1) Venetian - stunning and the extra is worth it.
2) Bellagio - probably a close second to the Venetian but the rooms are a lot smaller.
3) Somewhere else on the strip.
4) MGM...

Thanks for the advice. Will check out wyn prices also. As previously mentioned I'm finding expedia way cheaper than any others for booking the trip. Those prices were for 7 nights Inc flights in mid oct - the week before half term.

We got back last week. Have stayed in the Balagio before, but we stayed in the Mandalay Bay this time. It was a top hotel, room was more spacious than the Balagio and the beach was fantastic. I would stay there again, plus you can get the mono rail up the strip, there is also a mono rail from the Mandalin to the MGM or you can walk through the connecting walk ways.

There is a lot of work going on up the strip, by the Balagio, so its dusty and noisy.
