We're going to Alghero, Sardinia, with Ryanair, 2 July. Just printing off my boarding cards, and there's numerous red bold warning messages about cabin bags. How strict are they? Do they really insist that handbags, stuff you bought airside etc, fits within your one bag each?

I saw a woman board at Bergamo with 4 bags...

Getting on at Stansted they were not checking at all.

It's very much luck of the draw

Only used them once, with the wife two bags between us one 10 KG one 19 KG, so under the 15 KG total, but they made us unpack them at the desk and get two bags at 14.5 each, so I'd say strict.

From my experience, they are very strict.

And anything they think they can charge extra for, they will.

At check-in yes, they are very strict.

But if travelling with just hand luggage - it's a lottery (which appears to be mostly winnable)

I have to use them quite a bit as they are the only carrier that flies to Zaragoza from the UK. I normally have just cabin baggage and they are a royal pain in the arse. They generally weigh it, measure it (or at least make sure it fits in the thingy) and insist that you have only one piece. IME they are strict, and anything outside the parameters means a trip to the customer service desk to pay extra. Every time I get to Zaragoza, I make a trip to the cathedral there and say a prayer to wish O'Leary a bad case of genital herpes. I fly (or at least used to) quite a lot and no-one, but no-one treats you like Ryanair.

Just measured my (hard) hand luggage and its 2cm over the 20cm depth.
Am I right in thinking thats another £30 to pay at the airport ? (Goes up loft to look for another bag.....)

If you use online checkin at what point can they make you pay - they won't see you until the gate?

I have a mini suitcase I use as hand luggage which is about 1 inch deeper than their maximum, I have never had an issue flying with it.
