I'm off to Bali for 2.5 weeks in August. The GF and I are going to stay in to around Kuta or Seminyak for the 1st 3-4 nights just to relax, before exploring.
I am after a hotel that is close to restaurants, bars and the beach and I can't find one that stands out.

Anyone got any suggestions, budget under £100 per night.

Thanks

stayed in the Oberoi Bali in Seminyak and managed to get a real deal by phoning and speaking to the Oberoi people direct.

That was 2 years ago, but the service and hotel were top notch- the holiday is remembered as one of the best hoildays the missus and i have ever taken

How about the Legian area - just above 'touristy' Kuta but some good restaurants and a short taxi/long walk to the clubs and bars...

Thanks I will try the Oberion, but its said $2000 for 4 nights, better be a good reduction !

We have looked at Legion, but don't really want the hassle of Taxi's etc for the 1st few days.

If you are over 18, avoid Kuta.

I stayed a few nights in Kuta when I was a hardcore world traveller (!). No booking, just turned up at a nice looking hotel with a pool and payed about £10/night. Couldn't believe it when I got chatting to some holidaymakers who had booked from UK and were paying over £100/night! So, just turn up and find somewhere - plenty of choice available.

www.ramayanahotel.com £50/night
www.hardrockhotels.net/bali £100/night

I was in Kuta a couple of weeks ago. I was expecting the worst but it wasn't that bad. Was only there for one day mind...

As said, avoid Kuta, unless you're in the party mood - think the Aussie Ibiza (with added fosters) and you won't be too far off. Seminyak is a bit more chilled, still with good bars thoug, and only a 15-20 minute walk along the beach from Kuta anyway (or a cheap taxi). I guess Seminyak is more honeymoon orientated. Place I stayed in was this place: http://sarinandehotel.com/ at $30/night inc breakfast. Clean, 100yards from the beach and nice pool. Slightly aging though. Tucked away down a side road (5mins walk from the cafes). Meant it was quite quiet, though the mopeds will wake you up anywhere! Okay for a couple of nights stopover before hitting Papua, but if it's fancy top end place probably not your bag.
