I'm planning a trip to New York next year and I'm looking for suggestions for things to do, places to go and to stay etc... I'd also like to explore the wider area and take in some of the countryside.

Haven't settled on a date so suggestions are appreciated as to best time of year, best prices and events. Will obviously do all the typical touristy things but any other suggestions are welcome

Thanks, Squirrel!

I go to NY about half a dozen times a year - got an office there. Anyway, best time of year to go, in my opinion, is in the Spring (April/May) - not too hot and not too cold. You need to stay in a hotel mid-town, I quite like the Warwick (Google it). In terms of what to do, you'd do well to spend a day walking round Central Park - make sure you get a map first. The Natural History Museum is also pretty cool. I wouldn't bother with the Empire State Building, not much cop in my view.

Oh I don't know.

If you have not been to NYC before then it's worth a trip up but only if the que is short, I went in March and there was no que at all but I am aware it can get to hours long if you time it wrong.

Worth it though to get a good understanding of scale and size of the place.
Agreed, I've been up the top three times now and think the view is amazing. Prefer it during the day rather than evening. Saying that, you may be able to get a good view from one of the other buildings.

Go to Herz rent-a-car in New York. Say: "Give me a roofless yellow Corvette for the day please!" Part with $245 including taxes, full tank of fuel and ALL insurances!!!! Press starter button, wet pants at thunderous noise, and then just drive.........possibly towards the Hamptons, or just run the Central Park tunnel over, and over, and over....

$245, Holy st!

I did it last week:

Get to the Empire State Building early in the morning when it first opens and the queue will be minimal. I think it is definitely worth doing.
