I am sending my parents to the Edinburgh Tattoo and need a recommendation for a hotel close to the castle. They are 65 so are not so bothered about pools and gym facilities but like a good standard of hotel.

Any help with suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Rex- I stayed here last year. Nice place, great rooms, food is good too. It is probably a 15 min walk to the royal mile/castle, or can catch a bus from 100yds away.

Just stayed in Le Monde on George Street last week. Was nice!

New York Suite was great. 3 trendy bars aswell and a free drink for every night you stay.

The Balmoral, Glasshouse, Witchery, The George are all recommended aswell

Witchery is right next to the Castle £300+ a night though.

Missoni Hotel just opened up next to castle as well - http://www.hotelmissoni.com/ looks swanky

Hotel Du Vin is 5 mins walk.

August is mental, so whatever you go for book it immediately or you'll end up in a Travelodge in Livingston.

This is a winner.
Sheraton or Cale Hilton as long as the don't mind the short walk being up the somewhat steep Johnstone Terrace.

Very true. It's about three miles away, but worth noting smile

Don't use the Royal British. Company got us booked in there, and although it is nicely located, it's a bit like staying at your grans.

Thanks for all the replys. I have booked the Missoni Hotel through last minute on their Top secret booking. Did not take too much to work out the hotel and got extra £100 off.

Thanks once again and I will get the parents to review it.

Would be interesting to hear how it is, we're heading there in October possibly
