Oban is not that special but you can get the ferry to mull from here. If you book ask for room four as the view is fantastic. Had dinner at a restaurant on the harbour called "e e usk", was very good.

We stayed at the Tobermory hotel, nice place and Tobermory is a great little town. The hotel is privately owned and does a good dinner, best to book you table when you book the room. Hotel (pink building)

Lovely pool and very handy for best restaurant (Rocpool).
Plockton (on west coast) - picturesque village, a couple of good hotel/inns.
Cameron House on Loch Lomond was very nice.
Chartered their 42' cruiser on the Loch and my son had a wonderful time driving it.
