I'm going to be hitting Monaco for a couple of nights in August with a few mates on our Euro hoon and we're looking for somewhere cheap to put our heads down... anyone got any top tips? Serviced apartment or a cheap hotel would be what we're after...

Many thanks!

Funnily enough I'm sending my two eldest kids there tomorrow for a few days (for revising hard for their GCSE's and A-Levels). I'm sending them to the Columbus Hotel, which is (or maybe was) David Coulthard's hotel (or at least he has/had a business interest in it). I've stayed there a few times myself and it's good value for money and good quality.

Any reason you need to stay IN Monaco? Beaulieu-sur-Mer nearby is MUCH nicer. Monaco is not the most relaxing place for English people who do not happen to be Russian oligarch's. The words "cheap" and "Monaco" do not go together. A room at the Columbus (which is 'only' three-star) will cost you £500'ish a night in August. If you need to eat and drink, count on another £200 a day each. It will be very hot and there is no public beach. And not that much to do out of GP season. The roads in and out will be RAMMED in August.

Well we've found an apartment that sleeps 5 for 190 quid - we're on bikes not in cars so traffic is no problem. It's just for the day as one of the many places to stop off during the tour.

We have stayed at Hotel de la Darse at least 6 times http://www.hoteldeladarse.com/ in Villefranche sur Mer - about 20 minute drive from Monaco. Extremely good value, sensational views and right on harbour.

Great place to relax after a day in overrated Monaco...

That hotel name is making me PMSL. How can they possibly call it the Hotel De Lard Arse biggrin

Not to bang on about it but, as suggested, you should consider one of the Riviera villages between Nice and Monaco. Out of GP season there is nothing much to recommend Monaco unless you are loaded, like gambling with €500 minimum bet chips, appreciate the art of concrete and the architecture of '70's high rises and being observed by CCTV cameras. If you're on bikes you'll be less than 30 minutes away from Monaco from Nice. Nip in the morning. Have lunch by the marina, ogle the boats, and then back into France.

Yeah cheers I've done Monaco from Nice a few tyears ago with Mrs H, this time it's mates and we're headed generally eastbound from Millau > Nice > Monaco > Modena so just kind of planning stop offs.

We stayed here last year -

http://www.hotels.co.uk/hotel-france/hotel-beausol...

in July whilst doing our euro-trip - was a great hotel, rooftop pool (with plenty of birds to look at!) decent rates and carpark exit barriers that Lotuses and other low cars fit under. What more could you want.

I'm off there in August, and found this place for roughly £40 per person per night, its not IN Monaco, but just outside, close enough to walk if you wanted.
Hotel Le Grand Cap – 173, avenue De La Plage, 06190 Roquebrune Cap Martin

Alternatively there is a campsite about 3 miles outside Monaco which is rediculously cheap, although i doubt you'll have tents with you.
