Winter Sun

I fancy taking a week in January / February coming instead of going skiing and I'm looking for recommendations. We don't normally go sun hunting at this time of year and I'm trying to dissuade SWMBO the normal skiing foray.

Budget wise I guess we are talking £1000 - £1500 for the two of us.

As it's only for a week I'm not that keen on heading anywhere too far away but am open to suggestions.

Any personal tips would be great, thanks!

Could probably squeeze in Cuba for that, few days somewhere not too pricey in Havana then off to Varadero if you want some beach time (although you can just taxi it out to lovely beaches from Havana.
Might breach the "not too far away" rule though?

8-9hrs to St Lucia

Canaries - only four hours away and great weather that time of year. Tenerife has some nice spots but you can also try some of the smaller islands off the beaten track such as La Palma and La Gomera.

Cape Town? 10.5 hour overnight flight, no jet lag, amazing beaches / golf / roads / restaurants / wine farms...
