Hi

I arrive in Canada next week
I booked some kind of a middle of the road car from Avis via Expedia

They were the cheapest by a long way - even compared to Hotwire like for like

Now as Im a petrol/diesel head Im curious about what they might offer me for an upgrade at the airport

Normally I ignore all of the upgrade chat at the desk as Im too tired to haggle or take in what they are saying

Is there a standard speech from the guys at the desk to get me to spend more or is it a bit more random than that?

After 14h travelling I will be knackered and unable to take in whats being said to me

Is the extra for a Vette or an Esclanade going to be totally stupid and designed to rip me off or are they genuinely attempting to move cars off their lot at cost which would otherwise be standing idle?

If the latter then Im interested
But if its just all sales patter then Im happy with what Expedia have given me

Comments welcome

Be careful and have a look at the car they offered you in the first place and if then they offer an upgrade you need to see that car as well. It isn’t unusual for them (not just avis) to upgrade you to the same car you already had.
Decline the other insurance as long as you have travel insurance. Most of the time it just includes hospital treatment and some other random stuff.
Out of curiosity why is it taking 14 hours to get there? We fly from LHR to Vancouver and that will only take 9.5 hours.

To date I have never been offered an upgrade at a canadian airport!

I am not sure that many canadians would take it so they probably don't bother , I did get offered a 'vette in phoenix last year (in place of the compact i had ordered), couldn't take it though as there was 4 of us doh!

I haven't used avis for a while though!

probably connecting somewhere - takes me at least 13 hours to get to winnipeg, which in the days of Zoom was a 8 hr direct flight!
