It had to happen, sooner or later someone with a 'van would ask. Well, I hold my hand up.

Looking to get away for a week mid August and were thinking of taking Smoke Jnr (5.5yrs) to Legoland and maybe Chessington and anywhere else in the area.

Can you recommend a decent site for a week, nothing too expensive but family orientated and with a good pub close by?

I realise I am sinning posting this on PH so will now thrash myself with birch twigs as a penalty.

I think there is a Caravan Club site in Chertsey, don't know what it's like as I'm not a "shed dragger".hehe

I'm not aware of any Caravan Parks in Windsor.

But then to be fair, why would I be?

On no account visit Legoland during the school holidays.

There is simply no point. The queues to get on the rides can be an hour long. Why torture a five year old by taking them out for five hour-long waits before a few minutes of ride. It's st. st for you, st for them. Vile experience.

Instead I recommend Hollycombe working steam museum. It operates a Steam powered fairground. A five year old will simply adore it (my nephew spent four hours on rides) and you can normally ride anything with less than a five minute wait. More time is spent riding - less waiting = happy kiddy. Happy kiddy = significantly less frazzled parents and a SIGNIFICANTLY less pissed off uncle I can tell you...

Yes the rides are not as grand. But there's the historic interest too... The country down that way is pretty nice too and you'll be able to make up a short break in the area easily.

Do Legoland only if you must. Honestly. It's st.

Oh - final point. Once entered the Hollycombe rides are largely free - just like in Legoland. It's not one of those nickel and dime fairgrounds that do you £4 a ride...adding up to a hundred quid in short order...

Thanks for that chaps. Legoland is off the map!

I'll check out my CC membership book and see what's local to the area and make an informed decision (Take the Cerb and stay in a hotel hehe)

Useful intel, that, thanks, Plotters. I take it you have season tickets and can just go for an hour or so at a time?

Unfortunately my five year old nephew can only visit in the school holidays and otherwise lives several hundred miles away. Which means he can only be there when everyone else is. Which means it's st.

I fully accept that one might be able to make going there not st by avoiding times when everyone else can be there.
