If you have a car drive to Val Do Lobo or Quinta Do Lago for lunch one day for lunch at one of the beach restaurants.

Vilamoura is pretty classy but much more commercialised than the rest of the Algarve. Level of development in that area is impressive - a couple of years ago you'd see complexes springing up within weeks but things have slowed down now.

The place is surrounded by golf courses too.

No problem with transfers 'cos it's near the airport but for other travel we found the bus services a real pain.

Our regular destination is farther West and like you we thought we'd trust to public transport for a change. Not actually driving for a whole week was enough to bear but the complexity of the bus schedules and the time taken for anything more than the shortest journey made it a nightmare! Not that cheap either, taxis were better value but never again! Definately car hire for us from now on.

Just got back from Vilamoura after 10 nights in Vila Gale Marine Hotel. Could not fault the holiday, everything we wanted as a couple was there. Would recommend anyone who wants to have a nice walk, nice bars, nice restaurants, golf etc
If you are after more info feel free to mail me.
Gonna go back in the next 2 years.

Now time to book a holiday for new year...
