Cheapest way to get a race car from Sweden to London?
Discussion
Hi all,
Just going through the process of buying a Tuscan Racecar from a chap in Sweden together with full body moulds, 3 sets of wheels and a load of other spares. The problem of course is that its in Sweden and I'm just South of London.
Options as far as I can see are:
Trailer + Van across the Gothenburg 3 day ferry (the one they used on Top Gear) into the North of England and drive down
Trailer + Van around Europe and across the channel (route that Clarkson took in the SLR)
Get it sent over in a container
I'm told that the container option might incur some trouble with import tax, though I've not looked into it. I've not costed up any of them properly yet, but before I do, is there any obvious option? What would PHeaders do?!
And don't say buy a car from the UK!!

I would do some calculation on the long road trip versus ferry from Harwich to Esjberg (Denmark) and driving from there. DFDS Also do a ferry service from Copenhagen to Oslo which may save you some driving miles depening on where you need to get to in Sweden.
Either of those options are going to need a week of your time though so I suppose that will be what spoils the fun.

Hmm spoke to Circuit2Circuit yesterday and the best they can do from Gothenburg to my house across the ferry to Hull is £3500ish - mostly due to the ferry. Which is a pretty hefty chunk of dosh! Looks like it might be a bit cheaper to road trip it round Europe with a mate and a van
Oh and I'd love to drive the TVR back, but its got no engine or gearbox and is completely not road legal! Maybe I could cut a hole in the floor and Fred Flintstone it?

I will have a word with a couple of people and see if i can get a price together for you. I recently exported a D1 spec 350z from the UK - Luxemburg in a 7.5t truck so something can be done, and alot cheaper than 3.5k aswell...
if you could send me an email to Andy@croome.com with some dimensions (moulds etc) as the prices are usually worked out on a loading meter / cubic meter basis for import and export.
Re the container route, I honestly would not be too worried, I spent 6 years in sea frieght and imported a number of cars via container, the most valuable being an Aston DB4 Zagato (iirc) from New Zeland in silly season (when the south Atlantic is roughest...)

Towed a 18 ft cabin cruiser from UK to Norway, back in the 80's that was cheapest way, and no tax issue. When I brought my track car from the UK to Malaysia I simple put it in a container, 2002, but it was 900 pound to ship, plus the cost of transport to Harwich and the Agent here, and then the big one the TAX.
