Read the few replies on other topics on Rome, just wanted to see if anyone had any do's, or almost as importantly any don'ts?

Going with my girlfriend for 6 days, staying quite close to the Colosseum.

Anything other than the big tourist bits that people reccommend (any motor mesueums etc? biggrin), or something a bit out of the ordinary that you enjoyed?

Also, as mentionned any big no-no's?
Been warned by friends about pick-pockets - especially around the Colosseum, and spotted on another thread not to go near the main station at night. Any other good tips like this?

Thanks a lot

Went a few years ago in peak season. Didn't find anything particularily bad or to avoid. We always went out at night and never had any problems. I am sure pick pockets are a problem but we never had any trouble.

Its just like any major city. Just be aware that those sorts are about so keep pockets zipped or valuables in the hotel.

One place that may be a must visit (we would definitely go back again) is the English Cemetery just next to the metro station "pyramide" (I think). We went to look at the giant pyramid and came across this place. Absolutely beautiful cemetery and church dedicated to British residents that have died in Rome. Quite a few famous names too. The special thing about the place is the fact that it is also a cat sanctuary with the cats supposedly guardians to the dead. Quite a surreal place but very special.

Suppose it depends what you are going for. Made a refreshing break from the usual tourist hot spots.

Also, make sure you try every flavour of ice cream on offer smile
