My dad lives on the Fuengirola sea front, its very much like little england, lots of english bars/restaurants etc.

Mijas is worth checking out, its a nice little village in the hills, theres a water park there, and a bigger one just up the road in Torremelinos.

If you're renting a car and dont mind travelling a little, you could go check out Puerto Banus, its maybe 30-40 minutes drive away, and has some nice shops, restaurants and theres quite a bit of money floating around there, you'll find some impressive boats moored up and alot of exotica car wise.

Seconding the water parks, both worth a day.

Tivoli World is a theme park near Torremolinos, spend a late afternoon + evening there. Passage Of Terror is great.

If you do go to Banus, take out more money than you think you'll need. Then double it. Then you can buy a drink wink Picassos is good for a reasonably priced, good meal but be prepared to queue. Banus is a bit overrated IMO, although the yachts are nice to gawp at. Make sure you go up the second row (back from the harbour) that's where the livelier places are. Banus has a big El Corte Ingles (department store) if the girlie wants to shop.

Nikki Beach is near the Don Carlos about halfway to Marbella and offers giant beds on the beach with waiter service, but it's a bit pricey.

Are you hiring a car? Don't leave it till the last minute, there's massive undersupply at the moment.

Good shout on Tivoli, Passage of Terror is pretty good, and there are some old fashioned rollercoasters, bumper cars air rifle ranges etc.

Lots of decent cheapish restaurants too. Would recommend the pizza/italian place just up the hill on your left as you walk in.

And speaking of italian restaurants, Papa Luigis in Fuengirola is excellent.

Other things to do:-

The Teleferico (cable car) that starts just opposite Tivoli World & goes to the top of the nearby mountain. Amazing views from the top, and falconry displays too (weather permitting).

Drive up to Ronda (the road is used extensively for car launches & road tests, i.e. it's good).

Selwo Aventura (wildlife park) & Selwo Marine (dolphins, sea lions, etc.) - both were better than expected.

we had a family holiday in 1961 (I was 7) , dad, mum my brother ,sister and me all in MkII Jag 3.8. Sailed from London to Gibraltar on a Union Castle liner (Warwick Castle) Off loaded car and us by barge to Gib. We drove up Spain and stopped at Fuengirola for 2 weeks. We stayed in Hotel Florida which, I beleive, is still there, After there we drove up through Spain, Madrid, San Sebastian, into France Biarritz, Rouen Calais Dover. All in we were away for a month. Total cost for the whole trip was £250!
