Fujairah - UAE

My friends are planning to move here next year for a new job and
my wife is already planning her holidays!. The thing is my mate
is moving there to work but "the wives" have little info on what it's
actually like as regards schools, housing and shopping.
Previously they have spent time in Bahrain (Their parents live there)
so have experience of the Gulf but the only people they know who know
Fujairah were there a few years ago when it was just sand and camels.

Does anyone know the area now?. Are shops/ housing/ schools up to scratch?
Is it light years behind Bahrain or similar? Would living in Dubai and
commuting be a better option?
