I'm up in Edinburgh for 3 days and need some ideas of the best things to do! I've been here a couple of times years ago, but I'm now up with the missus to look round the uni as a potential venue for our masters courses. So...we've got nothing planned, what do people recommend as the must-do's and must-avoids?! We've got a hotel right in the centre and no car, so walk-able or bus-able!

Cheers!

Pretty much everywhere is walkable/bus-able.

Castle is OK if you've not done it before, Botanic Gardens are nice if it's good weather.
National galleries are cool to kill time.
Mary Kings (?) Close is a bit st.
Dynamic Earth is a ... well it depends what you're into..
Britannia? If you've got nowt else to do
Cracking place to do your Masters.

Camera Obscura

Places to eat (cheap): Monster Mash (couple of places), Cambridge, Mussel and Steak Bar (Grassmarket), Mussel Inn (Rose St), Howies (various). Others Outsider, Stac Polly, Wedgewood (only heard v v v good things about there).

Burke and hare for a...different experience.

It depends what you are 'into'.

Edinburgh has plenty of art galleries, museums etc.
Historical places like the castle and Holyrood Palace.
Sporty things, plenty of parks and hills, ski-slope, climbing wall (biggest in Europe) etc.
Plenty pubs, bars and restaurants also.

ghost tour is one of the better ones in the UK if you fancy having a few hours in the evening away from the pub.

royal yacht is moored up at leith, short bus ride away and is well worth a look.

Climb arthurs seat or carlton hill for the view. carlton hill is the one at the end of princes st with the observatory on the top.

Art museums are v good if you're into that sort of thing. The modern art museum has an original dali, picasso and henry moore bits and bobs.

Ah, get the 100 bus straight into town (fiver), drops you off at the train station and then the train out to MB (you at QMU?)
It's fine and as straight forward as it's ever been.
