Hello all.

Off to the Balearics in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone had any tips about good places to get some currency? Our travel agent keeps trying to get us to change some sterling over there but I don't know if they have the best conversion rates.

Anybody used anywhere recently which gave a good rate? Are the high street agents the best place to get money changed over?

Many thanks all.

I've always found Marks & Spencer to be the most competitive myself and regularly use them.

Try Money Shop. Our local one claims to beat the best rates you've got for major currencies anywhere else.

Nationwide don't charge commission for using their debit card abroad including in cash machines. Nor do HSBC if you've got their Plus account.

Travel Ex have always been good, just watch that some banks treat transactions with them as cash withdrawls so you can face the problem of exceeding your withdrawl total.

Nationwide is the best answer. I've used their services for a few years now! They don't charge you to have the account whereas HSBC do.

Nationwide never used to load the exchange rate but they do now. They are still the best option. I've just got back from the continent this weekend and was getting 1.13E to 1UKP out of the ATM.

I've used Travelex for a few years. Good online rates, no commission on Currency or T/Cheques.

Just be aware that if you use their cash passport scheme (visa electron) you'll get a much lower exchange rate at ATM's

FairFX's rates are always pretty good, cash delivered or on a prepaid currency
card.

Cool. I checked my statement and it didn't have any fees shown. I just figured that whatever charges were reflected in the rates.

Just returned from Spain and collected Euro's from Travelex at Heathrow. They guarantee the best price, plus we took a pre-paid card - their Cash Passport, and from the beginning of August there are no ATM fees or transaction fees. The only fees I could find are if the card remains unused after 12 months. The card reduced the cash I had, plus was accepted in shops, petrol stations etc
